Weybridge Town Centre (KT13)
Weybridge is an affluent commuter town with a population of 15,449 at the 2011 census, set where the River Wey meets the River Thames. The town centre features the A317 Queens Road as its main artery, which includes a major gyratory system at the junction with Seven Hills Road—described by one examiner as “a big roundabout with trees in the middle.” Monument Hill leads down to the High Street, which becomes congested during busy times as it links Weybridge to West Byfleet and the M25. The mini-roundabouts scattered around the town require sharp attention, and navigating through junctions here needs a keen eye due to occasional dense traffic. Weybridge railway station provides fast direct services to London Waterloo, and the town’s proximity to the A3, M25 (Junction 10), and the Brooklands industrial area means you’ll experience everything from quiet residential streets to heavy commercial traffic.
Oatlands Park (KT13)
Oatlands Park is a historic residential area on the eastern side of Weybridge, named after the former Oatlands Palace built by Henry VIII between 1537 and 1547. Today, the area is known for its wide, tree-lined avenues and garden-fronted properties, with no intersection by any major roads—making it an ideal environment for early driving lessons. The A3050 Oatlands Drive runs through the area, starting at a mini-roundabout on the A317 at Monument Hill and heading east as a residential road. Roads such as Oatlands Avenue (off Queens Road) are long and straight with few parked cars, perfect for introducing second and even third gear as new drivers gain confidence. Castle Road, tucked in by Oatlands Drive and Oatlands Chase, is a well-known location for practising the turn in the road. The Oatlands Park Hotel sits in its own grounds on the south side of Oatlands Drive, and the area’s proximity to Walton-on-Thames means you can easily transition from quiet avenues to busier suburban roads.
Brooklands (KT13)
Brooklands is one of the most historically significant motoring and aviation sites in the world—the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation, and home to Concorde. The world’s first purpose-built concrete banked motor race circuit opened here in 1907, built by Weybridge landowner Hugh Locke-King. The outer circuit was 100 feet wide and 2.75 miles long, with banked curves up to 30 feet high. Today, the area includes the Brooklands Museum, Mercedes-Benz World, and a major industrial park. For learners, Brooklands Industrial Park on Vickers Drive is home to around 100 businesses including Amazon, Tesco, and Argos, meaning you’ll encounter significant commercial vehicle traffic. The industrial estate has excellent access to the A3 (2.8 miles) and Junction 10 of the M25 (4.3 miles). St George’s Hill (KT13)
St George’s Hill is a 964-acre private, gated residential estate, often likened to Beverly Hills for its concentration of luxury mansions and celebrity residents. Those fortunate enough to be waved through the gates by the estate’s 24/7 security team will find a world of jaw-dropping properties and elegant sports clubs, including St George’s Hill Golf Club and St George’s Hill Lawn Tennis Club. Past residents have included John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Tom Jones, Elton John, and Jenson Button. For driving lessons, access is restricted—only residents and their guests are permitted through the security gates at Old Avenue (off the A317 Queens Road) or Brooklands Road (B374). The estate features automatic number plate recognition technology and restricted access at all times. The roads that follow its perimeter are all faster routes: Byfleet Road to the south has the national speed limit of 60 mph for a single carriageway—excellent for more developed learners. Seven Hills Road, running along the eastern side, undulates as its name implies and has a standard roundabout at the junction with Burwood Road. The surrounding roads provide superb practice for higher-speed driving and roundabout discipline.
Hamm Court (KT13)
Hamm Court is a prestigious private riverside estate on the banks of the River Thames in Weybridge. Properties here enjoy direct frontage to the Thames, with private walkways and moorings. The estate is surrounded by sheltered farmland and paddocks, creating a picturesque rural setting within short walking distance of the River Thames, the River Bourne, and the River Wey. For learners, Hamm Court offers narrow, winding private roads that require excellent spatial awareness and low-speed control. To the west of the railway line, much of the original heathland is now occupied by Heathside School and Brooklands College. For learners, the roads around Weybridge Heath—including Heath Road and Old Heath Road—offer a mix of open stretches and residential areas. The area is bordered by the railway cutting, so you may encounter level-crossing approaches and the need for careful observation near the railway.
